What does the procedure involve?

Mastopexy is the surgery that lifts and reshapes the breast when it has lost its position due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight changes or the passage of time. The goal is not simply to raise the breast, but to reposition it harmoniously and adapt the technique to your tissue.

In some cases it is performed without implants; in others, adding an implant also restores the volume lost in the upper pole.

When do we recommend it?

  • Sagging or deflated breasts after pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Areola sitting lower than the breast fold.
  • Loss of firmness after weight loss.
  • Wish for a lift without an artificial look.
The CLA Surgery approach

A lift adapted to your anatomy

Dr. Liuzza assesses skin quality, glandular volume, areola position and realistic expectations to decide whether a lift alone or a lift with implants is the right option.

Breast lift with or without implants

The choice depends on how much volume the breast actually retains. If there is enough tissue and the priority is lifting, a mastopexy without implants may be considered. If there is also marked volume loss in the upper pole, a lift with implants can add fullness and projection.

Asymmetries, chest width, skin quality and cleavage expectations are also reviewed. The goal is to avoid a high but artificial-looking breast and achieve a shape in proportion with your body.

Types of breast lift scars

  • Periareolar: indicated for mild sagging and limited adjustments around the areola.
  • Vertical: allows lifting and reshaping with greater control in moderate sagging.
  • Inverted T: reserved for significant laxity or extensive excess skin.

Scars are part of the surgery, but their design and follow-up strongly influence how they mature. Aftercare, support bra, check-ups and sun protection are all explained before the operation.

Breast lift price in Barcelona

The price depends on whether the lift is performed with or without implants, the scar type, surgical time, anaesthesia and any asymmetries that need correcting. The initial assessment is free and lets you compare options without pressure, with a personalised quote and financing available.

Breast lift in Barcelona: when lifting is enough and when volume is needed

Mastopexy, breast lift and breast uplift are all names for the same operation: raising the areola and the breast tissue back into place and removing the excess skin. The question we hear most at consultation is not about the name, but whether an implant is needed. The answer depends on two measurements: how far the areola has dropped in relation to the breast crease, and how much volume remains in the upper part of the breast.

  • Mild sagging and good volume: breast lift without implants, sometimes with a scar only around the areola.
  • Moderate sagging and an empty upper breast: breast lift with implants, which lifts and restores the cleavage in a single operation.
  • A lot of excess skin after major weight loss: an inverted-T breast lift, sometimes combined with a tummy tuck as part of a mommy makeover.

Many patients ask about wide-set breasts. A breast lift repositions the breast tissue and can improve the shape, but the distance between the breasts depends mainly on the breastbone and the breast base: surgery cannot create a cleavage that your anatomy does not allow. We assess this with measurements and explain what is realistic before operating.

If your breasts are large and heavy, the right operation is a breast reduction, which also lifts. If you already have implants and the breasts have dropped, implant revision with a breast lift is planned. To read more: breast lift with or without implants and vertical or periareolar scar.

The assessment is free, at Av. Diagonal 399 (Barcelona) or by video call, and it is carried out by the same surgeon who will operate on you.

Risks and complications of breast lift (mastopexy)

Every operation carries risks. Most complications are uncommon and can be treated, but you have the right to know them before deciding: they are part of the informed consent you will sign with Dr. Liuzza. For breast lift (mastopexy), the most relevant are:

  • Scars: they are unavoidable (periareolar, vertical or inverted-T). They can thicken or darken; final quality is judged at one year.
  • Changes in nipple and areola sensation: common at first; in a minority of cases they persist.
  • Asymmetry: small differences in height or shape between sides.
  • Areola suffering: partial loss of areola tissue is rare and more frequent in smokers.
  • Haematoma, seroma or infection: uncommon; managed conservatively or with a drain.
  • Loss of lift over time: skin keeps ageing; pregnancies or weight changes may make a new correction necessary.
  • Breastfeeding: most patients keep the ability to breastfeed, but it cannot be guaranteed.

How we reduce these risks

A complete pre-operative work-up (blood tests and anaesthetic assessment), surgery in an authorised healthcare centre with an accredited operating theatre, meticulous surgical technique, antibiotic and anti-thrombotic prophylaxis when indicated, clear written instructions and direct follow-up by the surgeon herself at every check-up. If after surgery you notice fever, increasing pain, bleeding or sudden swelling, contact the clinic without waiting for your next appointment.

Frequently asked questions

Do implants always have to be placed?
No. If there is enough volume, a lift alone can be performed. If a lot of fullness has been lost, implants help restore projection.
Will there be scars?
Yes, but they are planned to be as discreet as possible and improve progressively over the following months.
Can it be combined with augmentation?
Yes. This is common when the patient wants to lift the breast and restore volume at the same time.
Which type of scar will I need?
It depends on the degree of sagging, excess skin and breast volume. It may be periareolar, vertical or inverted T.
How much does a breast lift cost?
It depends on whether implants are used, the scar type and the complexity. The quote is provided after the free assessment.
Are a mastopexy and a breast lift the same thing?
Yes. Mastopexy is the medical name for a breast lift, also called a breast uplift. It can be done with or without implants, depending on how much volume the breast has kept.
Can a breast lift bring wide-set breasts closer together?
It can improve the shape and position of the breast tissue, but the distance between the breasts depends mainly on the breastbone and the breast base. At the free consultation this is measured and we explain what change is realistic in your case.
