What does the procedure involve?
Lipofilling uses fat harvested from the patient's own body, which is processed and injected into another area to add volume and improve contour. It is used in both facial and body areas depending on the indication.
It is a valuable technique when the goal is an organic result and a more natural integration of the transferred tissue.
When do we recommend it?

Facial lipofilling in Barcelona and other uses of your own fat
Lipofilling (fat transfer or autologous fat grafting) involves taking fat from a donor area, purifying it and grafting it in small amounts where volume is missing. As it is your own tissue there is no rejection, and part of the fat stays permanently; the rest is reabsorbed in the first few months, so the result is assessed at three to six months.
- Facial lipofilling: restores volume to the cheekbones, folds, hollow under-eyes, temples or lips, with a more natural and longer-lasting result than many fillers. It is often combined with a facelift or eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty).
- Buttocks: it is the basis of buttock augmentation with your own fat, with a strict safety rule: inject only into the subcutaneous layer.
- Breasts: for small increases in size, asymmetries, tuberous breasts or to soften the edge of an implant.
- Correcting previous results: irregularities from earlier liposuction, depressed scars.
It should not be confused with fat-dissolving injections, which do the opposite: a product is injected to break down fat. Lipofilling adds volume; fat-dissolving injections remove it.

Risks and complications of fat grafting (lipofilling)
Every operation carries risks. Most complications are uncommon and can be treated, but you have the right to know them before deciding: they are part of the informed consent you will sign with Dr. Liuzza. For fat grafting (lipofilling), the most relevant are:
- Partial fat resorption: 30–50 % of the injected volume is expected to be reabsorbed; a second session is sometimes needed.
- Oil cysts and calcifications: small nodules of fat that does not take; in the breast they can show on mammography, so tell the radiologist.
- Irregularities or asymmetry: at the donor or recipient site.
- Bruising and swelling: common both where fat is harvested and where it is injected.
- Infection: uncommon.
- Fat embolism: very rare; the risk is minimised by injecting fat in the correct plane, especially in the buttocks.
How we reduce these risks
A complete pre-operative work-up (blood tests and anaesthetic assessment), surgery in an authorised healthcare centre with an accredited operating theatre, meticulous surgical technique, antibiotic and anti-thrombotic prophylaxis when indicated, clear written instructions and direct follow-up by the surgeon herself at every check-up.
